John Stevens’, Who's Who 2012, A & C Black, 2012; online edition, Oxford University Press, December 2011 (), accessed 8 July 2012.〕 Waller was educated at St Edward's School, Oxford and served during World War II with the RNVR. When peace came he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge〔 and ''Wells Theological College'' before being ordained priest in 1951. He began his career with curacies at Hillingdon and Tiverton〔''Crockford's Clerical Directory 1975-76'' London: Oxford University Press, 1976 ISBN 0-19-200008-X〕 before incumbencies at Strood and Harpenden. In 1979 he ascended to the Episcopate, a post he held for eight years. A man of strong convictions〔The Times, Tuesday, 12 May 1981; pg. 2; Issue 60925; col A Bishop joins the “People's march for jobs”〕 he retired in 1987, becoming an Assistant Bishop within the Bath and Wells diocese.
